A Window Display of Northern Nostalgia

Posted: 25th October 2021

A new showcase on our Deansgate Terrace is celebrating all things Manchester and is designed by Kitsch Republic Founder Angela Dennerley

At 285 Deansgate until 13th November, pop up shop will also be open 12th & 13th November

The display is part of new initiative ‘Watch this Space’ – a partnership with Dez Rez Projects to create a visible city centre platform for Manchester artists and makers in one of our Deansgate store windows.

Manchester homewares brand, Kitsch Republic has this taken over the space with a nostalgic window dedicated to Manchester’s iconic retro brands and designs, capturing memories of buses, music, iconic TV, and everything in between.

The founder of Kitsch Republic, Angela Dennerley has created a one-off collection of lampshades and cushions expressly for  the window display to highlight memories and associations of her Manchester home.

The display will be exhibited from October 19th until 13th November and a pop up shop selling these one-off Mancunian inspired homewares, will be open 12th & 13th November.

Angela started Kitsch Republic 2012, originally as a vintage market stall. After gaining many years’ experience in her roles in buying and procurement, Angela decided to take Kitsch Republic from a market stall to a full-time, independent business.

The company began to grow at the eve of the pandemic in 2019, navigating the trials and tribulations of launching a small business into a difficult market, but keeping creativity and high quality at the forefront.

Angela Dennerley, Founder of Kitsch Republic, said: “We’re really excited to be showcasing our creativity with a Mancunian twist at Great Northern. The window display is designed to capture a nostalgic feel of Manchester, lighting up our past in our present moment. From buses, to music, to TV and many other things in between!’.

Mark Schofield, Centre Director for The Great Northern, said: “We’re delighted to house this nostalgic window display designed by the incredible, Kitsch Republic. We hope it’s nod to the city’s heritage touches the hearts of Mancunians and residents alike.

“We encourage guests to not wait too long to visit, as the window will only be on display for a limited-time only!”.

Kitsch Republic stalls can still be found regularly around Manchester and Cheshire, particularly at Heaton Moor Market, Love Bollington Market and Make it Marple Markets. The brand also has plenty of stockists around the UK.
