Makers Market Returns to Great Northern Sunday 2nd August

02 Aug

We are really excited to be welcoming Makers Market back to the square on Sunday 2nd August for the first time since the Covid-19 lockdown began to ease after bad weather put a stop to our planned July event.

As ever, Makers Market will run all day and play host to a fantastic range of independent businesses encompassing food, drink, art, design and interiors; meaning there’s truly something for every shopper looking to support local brands whilst enjoying a day out in the expected great weather.

To keep visitors and shoppers, plus the traders and their team members, as safe as possible onsite, Makers Market has put a range of procedures in place to integrate social distancing, increased hygiene and other government guided measures.

The market is asking each of its independent stallholders to:

  1. Provide PPE for each member of staff onsite and as always uses clean utensils and gloves when handling any food
  • Limit the number of team members on a stall at once so social distancing can be maintained
  • Ensure they have a full hygiene plan for their own team members
  • Discourage cash payments and use card and contactless payment options wherever possible

What’s more, hand sanitiser stations will be in place for all to use, the market layout will be slightly altered to accommodate the need for extra space and one metre plus social distancing, a one way system will be in operation and visitors may need to wait to approach a stall or move onto the next trader in order to keep a metre away from another group.

Finally, every stall will be pressure washed before and after the market ends and increased cleaning of all surfaces will take place throughout the day.

Those looking to enjoy the food they purchase onsite can do so safely away from the market using the Great Northern Warehouse’s new social distance markers, which surround its amphitheatre and make it easy to relax, socialise and snack whilst also adhering to government guidelines.

Centre Director Mark Schofield said: “We’re delighted to welcome the return of the Makers Markets to the Great Northern Square; we know locals have missed the fantastic mix of local brands the market brings together and this first market since the national lockdown is set to be a real celebration of Manchester talent. Our team has worked closely with the market organisers and traders to ensure extensive safety procedures are in place and we look forward to seeing visitors enjoying their wonderful wares.”
