Showcasing ‘a range of genres from illustration to digital art, photography, mosaics and hand-painting’, Great Northern and Art Battle Manchester combine to present ‘Out of the Shed’, a contemporary art exhibition championing the work of eight unknown local artists, on display for twelve months.
Following over 100 submissions, the winners were selected by an illustrious panel of judges featuring Mancunian art scene legends, including New Yorker illustrator Stanley Chow and street artist Qubek.
With a ‘personal, emotive story’ attached to each work, every winner has been allocated a 2mx2m space within Great Northern Warehouse for a year, as well as a cash prize, art material from Cass Art and further support for their blossoming careers.
From the moving, stricken artwork of Kate Max, a regenerative medicine scientist at the University of Manchester, to Mallai’s photographical meditation on parenthood, the winners comprise an immensely diverse celebration of regional creativity across a wide variety of disciplines.
