Posted: 18th January 2023

Featuring a range of international productions, over 100 films from the UK, 6 feature film world premieres and 17 UK premieres, Manchester Film Festival returns to ODEON Cinemas at Great Northern with eight unmissable days of unique movie magic.

Back for its ninth instalment, Manchester Film Festival proudly hosts an immensely impressive selection of movies, many of which are showing for the first time either domestically or globally. The festival opens with the UK premiere of British rom-com RYE LANE, a story of two twenty-somethings, both freshly scarred by messy breakups, who connect over the course of a day. Playing on Friday 10th March at 7pm, the screening follows a world premiere at Sundance Festival, with the cast and crew in attendance for a post-film discussion and an audience Q&A.

Amongst 17 acclaimed UK Premieres, highlights include EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED TO TELL MY DAUGHTER ABOUT MEN, a collection of 23 short stories directed by 23 female directors in support of Survivors of Abuse;  Horror film ANACORETA starring and produced by Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Misfits); and JILL – LIFE WILL FIND YOU starring Juliet Rylance (Sinister) and Tom Pelphry (Ozark), as well as the Manchester premiere of BUTCHER’S CROSSING, starring Nicolas Cage, which recounts the journey of a young Harvard dropout who decides to seek his destiny out West by tying his fate to a team of buffalo hunters.

Alongside a slate of UK-first screenings, Manchester Film Festival presents 6 world premieres, including THE ROAD OF EXCESS, which follows the stars of early noughties cult TV show DIRTY SANCHEZ and examines the consequences the show had on their lives; LOVE WITHOUT WALLS, a film about a young couple who, after struggling to pay their rent, find themselves lost in the underbelly of life on the streets; Dan Clarke’s A KIND OF KIDNAPPING, also about a young, broke couple who kidnap a sleazy politician who decides he can spin the story to his own advantage, and many more.
