Sandpit Refreshed for Free Play in the City Centre

Posted: 6th April 2021

Following a long winter and three national lockdowns, the UK has never been keener to head to the beach and let their hair down.

Luckily for the people of Manchester, we’ve reopened our much loved family sandpit; after first giving it a little makeover.

Spring cleaning on the sandpit has been completed, refreshing it with 10 tonnes of new sand, while its existing 50 tonnes of sand was also sifted and cleaned.

Our spectacular sandpit has proved a firm family favourite with Manchester residents and once again revives the city’s historic tradition of creating free and safe outdoor play areas for children – something which has been sorely missed over the past year.

Whether it’s crafted into castles, dug into ditches, sifted or buried, sand offers countless opportunities for both fun and learning not to mention the feeling of it between your toes! Even grown ups will want to join in.

We’ve also spruced up the artwork on the playhouse with a fresh lick of paint and a varnish job from local artist MOZE, and our community gardener, Stuart, has been busy cutting the surrounding grass and planting new beds – ensuring the whole space is ready for an Instagram-worthy moment with family or friends.
